June 2023

 We started the month of June out on the AM shift Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  It's always hard to think about getting up so early, but we love the AM shifts and really enjoy being with our ordinance workers.  The days were busy.

Lon and LaRon went fishing on the 5th to CJ Strike. They brought home some nice crappie.  I visited with Mom.  This week we have the PM shift, so I won't be able to see her again until next Monday.  The temple was busy all week.  Not much out of the ordinary happened.  On Sunday the 11th, we attended the 1st ward to hear Gordon and Elaine Ford report their mission.  They served in Canada, in some very remote areas.  I went to church with Mom cause Connie is out of town.  Lon attended choir practice, and then we went to visit a couple of families.  

This is our week off, so Lon was able to do some fishing, rock chuck hunting, and golfing.  I went to lunch with Barb, and we did some temple work for our family names.  On Friday morning, we drove to Boise to spend the day with Justin and Shayla.  Shayla had breakfast pizza ready for us when we got to their new home.  It is a very nice home.  We are so happy for them.  The pizza was great, and we even got to visit with Ryanne before we headed to Homedale to golf.  We played 18 holes then went to lunch at Big Judd's.  What a great day!  But not one picture taken!!!

Saturday morning, we drove to Bliss to have breakfast with Kim and George.  The Ox Bow used to be a great place to eat in our youth, but it is closing and real run down now.  We went to a different place, but the food was just ok.  But the company was fantastic.  We then took off on back roads that I didn't even know existed and went from Bliss to Fairfield.

We have had a very wet spring, so everything is green, and the reservoirs are filling up.

The sagebrush has its own kind of beauty.  We had thought we would see lots of wildlife, but we only saw cattle grazing. 

We didn't get home till around 2:30 and George and Lon went rock chuck hunting the rest of the day.

On Sunday, we attended the 5th ward to hear Mark report his mission.  It was great to see him, and Brett was the concluding speaker so that was fun.  Kurt even said the closing prayer.  A Thompson meeting!

On Monday the 19th, Lon and LaRon took off fishing to Salmon Falls Reservoir.  They were out in the middle of the reservoir when the motor wouldn't start to bring them to shore.  They were in trouble when suddenly there appeared the sheriff's department to do a boat inspection.  They were so glad to see them.  The deputies towed them to shore.  You'll have to read Lon's journal for the rest of the story - an eventful rescue - but they learned that if that ever happens again, they simply have to call 911 and help will be on its way.  Good to know!

Morning shift again!  Thursday was our 51st wedding anniversary and we were thrilled to spend the day together in the temple.  On Friday we came home and took a nap cause tonight is Lon's class reunion, so we won't get to bed early.  We went to Eden for a very nice dinner with Lon's classmates from 1968.  They had a very nice turnout for the reunion.  This class has always been close.  Ron and Jane Bloxham came home with us to spend the night.  We were up early and off the temple for our last early morning shift for 2 weeks.  

It was a busy morning at the temple.  Lon was privileged to seal Coby Yost and his new wife.  We had the grandmother of an own endowment faint in a session, thank goodness President Harris had arrived by then and took care of things.  The 2 policemen in the session wanted to call an ambulance, but President knew that it was just a simple faint and not a heart attack.  While President and I took care of this situation, Lon did the office devotional for President.  We had planned to come home for a nap but got home in time to change clothes and leave for the class reunion with Ron and Jane.

The class met at Ron Cline's home.  We watched the 4th of July parade for Eden, always held the week before.  Again, a great turnout, even Rose (Lon's high school girl friend) came.  This was the first time she has been to a reunion that we have been to.  We had a great meal, great memories shared, but skipped the fireworks.  It has been a very long day.  We didn't get to bed till after 11, totally exhausted.

Ron and Jane went to breakfast with the class, and we went to our church meetings.  Our choir sang and we felt like we needed to be there to sing with them.

Ginger and Shayla arrived while we were at church.  Shayla had to get to Boise to clean the office, so we didn't get to see her.  Our 3 girls had a siblings retreat in Utah and Ginger will be here for a couple of days to visit.  Monday morning, we golfed, then went to lunch.  Lon and LaRon went fishing, no catching this day but had a good boat ride.  Ginger and I went to visit with Mom.  We golfed again on Tuesday Morning

After golfing, we had breakfast, got ready for our evening shift at the temple and headed to Twin.  We dropped Ginger off to get a rental car so she could spend time with her Aunt Judy then head to Boise to fly home.  It was so fun to have her here.  

We finished the month off on the PM shift.

We love serving here and love the people we are able to serve with.

The days and weeks seem to speed by for us.  We are so thankful for good health to be able to keep up with our schedule.  Life is good!
