Thompson Life: May- 2023

May 1st, and it is finally warm enough for me to golf😉. I'm a fair-weather golfer. Lon, Tracy and I went golfing at 8 this morning. It was a beautiful morning, and we enjoyed our time together. Lon met Derlin Taylor at Blue Lakes Golf Course for an afternoon round while I visited with Mom.

This is a very normal week off for us. Tuesday morning, we went to the temple. Lon was privileged to be the sealer for Jeff and Nancy Sauer's sealing. I attended also. Lon did a great job. I got to visit with Jeff's mother and aunt, my second cousins, Karen and Janice. I hadn't seen Janice for years. It was a wonderful morning. We then had TLC meeting but because of the sealing we didn't get everything done that needed done so we will have to continue the meeting on Wednesday morning. Dick and Kyla came to visit with Mom, so they arrived about 6pm. Wednesday after the meeting, I visited with Mom, Judy, Dick and Kyla while Lon went golfing with his brother Kurt. Thursday, we subbed for the Taylors on the pm shift. Friday morning, we saw Dick and Kyla off, I hurried and washed the sheets and got the bed made then we headed to the temple to sub for the Taylors on the pm shift again. Linda and Mick came in Friday afternoon and were in bed by the time we got home. Saturday morning, we visited with Mick and Linda for a few minutes, then headed to Twin Falls to have breakfast with Chandler and Eisley at the Depot Grill. Chandler graduated from CSI so we took him to breakfast to celebrate because we couldn't attend his graduation in person.

He bought a new truck and was showing it off to us. Chan is headed to Fairfield to work the summer on the fire crew for the Forest Service. We got home in time to tell Linda and Mick good-bye, changed clothes and headed to sub for the Taylors again on the pm shift. A very busy "week off".

Sunday was a wonderful day. Lon and Chan went to the Twin Falls Hospital to give a blessing to the granddaughter of one of our ministering families. Then he and Eisley met us at our ward and attended with us. (Tracy and Sarah are out of town). We fed them dinner, and Lon gave Chandler a blessing. Chan is very nervous about heading to work on the fire crew. Chan headed home to get packed as he heads out on Monday morning. We headed to the temple for our Shift Coordinator's meeting at 4:00. The meeting went very well. We got home and put our feet up. We are exhausted!

Monday morning was just too cold to golf early so we waited till 10:00. We got rained on before we got through. I visited with Mom while Lon baked cookies and biscuits. We are not sure that we feel rested and ready for our early morning shift tomorrow.

Tuesday afternoon we got a call from one of our missionaries from our mission in Chile.

Elder Rhett Meek was a great missionary who served with us in Chile. He was passing through on his way to Utah and stopped to visit. He had just finished a successful bear hunt.

We met Shayla and Justin at Serenity to visit with them and Mom on Mother's Day. It was a very nice day. We talked to all of the kids today. We are so blessed to have such a great family.

Our month follows a pattern; early morning shift one week, PM shift the next week, and our "week off" which usually means being in the temple at least 3 days of the week either doing work for our ancestors or filling in for one of the presidency. We golf when we can and visit with Mom on our off days. The months seem to speed by as we are so busy. Putting in 8-to- 10-hour days in the temple makes us tired, but we love this calling so much. It is so wonderful to spend our days with these dedicated people who love to come to the temple, to serve or to do the work for their ancestors.

On Thursday the 25th, we had the day off, so we headed to Burley to visit with Larry again. We arrived at his care center only to find out that he isn't there anymore. We are guessing that he is living with Tiffany but don't know for sure. We had to drive by the temple to see how the progress is coming along.

We then went to visit with Lon's cousins, Nolan and Kathy Thompson. We had a very nice visit. We got back to Jerome in time to decorate the graves for Memorial Day.

On Friday the 26th, we headed to Mindi's house in Utah. We had a beautiful day to golf with her.

The course was very flat, so the walking was easy. They added a 4th to our threesome but it was okay. We had a great time. Nathan and Loran were in town, so we got to visit with them as well. Mindi drove us to visit with Farrell and AnnaVee. The traffic was horrible. It took us twice as long to get there than usual. So thankful for Mindi willing to do the driving. AnnaVee is still in a lot of pain from her hip surgery, so I stayed with her to visit while Mindi and Lon went to see Wade and Daniell.

Justin hurt his back and didn't think that he could sit through our play so Hannah came with us instead. We were given tickets to "Hello Dolly" at the Hale Theatre for Christmas from Justin and Mindi. The play was awesome!

There really isn't a bad seat in the house but these were so close.

It was so wonderful to be able to share this experience with these two amazing young women. Hannah and Jacob are expecting a baby in October. It's hard to believe that Mindi will soon be a grandma! 😏 (when did we get so old)?

We headed for home after the play. We had some pretty intense thunderstorms on the way home. Once we almost had to pull over because we couldn't see the road due to the rain. Drew and Karen Miller arrived about 10. They need a bed for a couple of nights as they are here to visit with Katie, Melissa, David and Clara. We talked till 11:30!

Sunday morning, Drew and Karen went to Twin to go to church with their kids. I attended Sacrament with Lon then headed to Twin to attend church with Mom. Connie and Judy are both out of town so I am spending every day that I can to fill in the gaps. I had a nice visit with Mom, but no church as the center is in a Covid breakout again. At least they don't keep us from coming in. Mom needs the visits.

Monday morning, we got to golf with Tracy and Chandler to celebrate Tracy's 47th birthday. We met Tracy's family at Don Juan's Restaurant for dinner that evening.

We ended May and started June on the AM shift.

The rains have definitely helped our drought situation and the flowers at the temple are looking beautiful.
