We headed out about 4 to Jose Miguel Carrera in the Javier Carrera Stake for their Capilla Abierta. We had a wonderful evening there. We had over 100 people in attendance again. This time we had more less active families attend.
3 ward members along with Elders Banega, Dixon, Keith, and Schroeder.
It is fun to see the ward members hit the streets to invite people in. We probably gave away more than 100 pass-along-cards. Elders Banega and Schroeder serve in this ward and they ended up with 23 references of people who want to learn more about their Savior. We were worried that Easter weekend would not be a good time for a Capilla Abierta but it ended up being a great time. We got home around 9:30pm and will start the week out just a little tired after a great weekend.
Tuesday morning we headed out to Gabriela to teach Elders Meek and Coombs how to make pies.
Elder Meek has his own apron so Elder Thompson put his on Elder Coombs.

This is a fruit. It looks like a plumb on the outside. You break it open and it looks like little worms. It is very sweet, kind of like honey but tough to eat when you see worms!

Putting the finished product in the oven. We went to their home to make the pies as their kitchen is bigger than ours. The stoves have no temperature dials so you just have to guess where 350 is.

The berry pie turned out great and we took off to do a few service calls before returning to the office. The peach pie is in the oven. When we called them the next morning, only a couple of pieces were left as there are 4 Elders living in this 2 bedroom, one bath house.
On Tuesday about 4 we had just returned to the office and got a call from Elders Folha and Leandro in La Florida. They were in trouble as they had an appointment with an investigator in 20 minutes and Elder Folha was in the bathroom and the door would not open. It would take us at least 40 minutes to get to their house because of the traffic at that time of day so we told Elder Leandro to do whatever he had to do to get the door open. He kicked the knob and the cylinder broke and the door opened. They were a little late for their meeting and we will see the damage on Wednesday morning when we get to their place.
Wednesday morning we arrived at the apartment of Elder Folha and Elder Leandro. The door was not damaged at all. We just need to get a new door knob. We took one set of wood bunk beds from their house

We took the beds to the home of Elders Heninger and Cazaut. They were sleeping on metal bunk beds which squeaked and rocked when anyone moved in the bed. They were getting very little sleep.
This little yellow container and the black cup are filled with matte. It is an herbal tea that the locals drink. You put the dry herbs in the yellow cup and then pour boiling water over it. You have a metal straw with a strainer that keeps out the herbs and you sip the tea. Most of the Elders have taken up the habit of drinking this.
We went to Cordillera on Friday morning and visited 5 pensions as we made our way back to town. The 4 Elders in Pirque have a Capilla Abierta scheduled in two weeks and they needed the training materials. They are building this branch a chapel and will have the dedication that same weekend so it should be a wonderful event to show-off their new chapel. We did some repairs in their home and got back to the office around 4. We went to dinner with the Hughes for our date night. We went to a steak house in the mall close to us as the traffic was horrible. This dessert is called Tiramisu. The waiter described it as cookies with ice cream and chocolate.
It was all soggy. The cookies were soaked in something. Sister Hughes ate all of the shaved chocolate and Elder Hughes ate the ice cream. I took a taste of the cookies and had no desire for more.
Saturday we have no Capilla Abierta scheduled so we are going to go exploring with the Hughes. I will get this posted and do a separate blog about our adventures. It has been a good week. We have been able to do some repairs and spend time with these amazing young missionaries. The week went by so fast. We are definitely busy. We send our love to all. Have a great week.
