Wow! October has arrived. People are counting down the days till Christmas but our computer is counting down the days till we enter the MTC. As of October 1st, we have 35 days left.
On Monday October 1st, Lon, Tracy and George went fishing again. They caught some very nice ones again and were home by 1pm. After cleaning the fish, we went to Tracy's house and Lon helped Tracy pack the bearings on his trailer while I did some calking that I hadn't finished before and we put down some trim that we had not finished also. We had a nice fish dinner with the family and enjoyed visiting.
Lon, Tracy and I went golfing on Tuesday then George, Lon and Tracy got a load of firewood and delivered it to Tracy's house. He is now set for the winter.
We have been packing away some of the things that we won't be taking with us on our mission. We are putting them in one of our sheds out back. We golfed again Wednesday morning. Our golf days are going to come to a close soon. The weather is starting to be rather cold for it. But today it was up to 48 degrees so off we went. Lon even played the back nine with Al Whitby today. If the sun is shining and no wind it is not too bad.
We headed to Boise on the 4th to spend the day with Shayla and the kids. We were scheduled to go golfing but it sprinkled all day so we went shopping for shoes and power bait instead. We met the kids at Big Judds and enjoyed hamburgers and fries and tots. Gideon paid off his car today. We are so proud of these kids. They are working so hard and doing great in school as well. Ryanne and Shayla are going to Spokane, Washington tomorrow to check out the university there. It is so hard to believe that our grandchildren are old enough to be going to college.
On Friday Lon and Tracy took the canoe to Mormon Reservoir to fish again. They had a great day. We went to dinner at Garabaldes with Ysidro and Maria to celebrate his birthday.
We sure love being with these two. They are growing in their testimonies of the gospel and they love attending the temple just like we do.
Saturday General Conference began at 10:00. We just love conference and look forward to it every 6 months. This morning they announced that our Sunday blocks will only be for 2 hours instead of 3 starting in January 2019. We knew that there were some pilot programs going on so it really wasn't a big surprise. We will have a 60 minute Sacrament Meeting followed by a one hour primary. On the first and third Sundays we will have Sunday School and on the second and fourth Sundays we will have Priesthood, RS, and Young Women's. The brethren have created a new study guide that will be used in the homes to teach the doctrine of the Gospel and then it will be reinforced in our Sunday meetings. We enjoyed both sessions today then went to Tracy's to watch the Women's Conference and have supper. Tracy taped the BSU game so we watched it after the Conference.
Sunday we again watched Conference. They talked a lot about the new schedule, announced 12 new temples and reminded us that the name of our church is not the Mormon's but it is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and we need to use the whole name, not a nick-name. It was a wonderful conference and we look forward to reading each talk over again. We attended the viewing for Ray Ford then visited with the McKay's.
Lon drove beet truck on the 8th, 12 1/2 hours. It started raining during the night and rained all day on Tuesday so no work in the beets on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. It was just too muddy to get into the fields. So we went to the temple on Tuesday and Lon baptized me for 8 family names and then Brother Bailey baptized Lon for his 6 family names. Then we attended the 3:00 session. We got Christmas mailed off to the kids, one more thing checked off of our list. We are slowly getting ready.
Wednesday was too wet to work but nice enough to golf again. We put the golf clubs away as we just don't think we will have a chance to golf again.
I subbed for the last time on the Saturday mid shift on the 13th. Lon had a Spanish Sealing on the 18th and we are done as ordinance workers in the Twin Falls Temple. We will be officially released on the 24th of October. It is always a little sad as one chapter of your life comes to an end. But our new Chapter will be beginning very soon. I had to attend the Saturday session of Stake Conference without Lon as he has been working 12 - 12 1/2 hours every day.
He is really enjoying his new truck.
Hopefully the rains will stay away till they get all the beets out.
Stake Conference was great as usual. We have a wonderful Stake Presidency and they all are so loving and kind. Our Temple President and spouse also spoke, Pres. and Sister Paul Young. We are going to miss serving with these two at the temple.

Today, the 18th and we have 18 more days till we report to the MTC. Mom and I attended the R.S. Lunch Bunch and then went shopping at Walmart.
Dick and Kyla came to town on the 21st.
They stay here with us cause that way they have their own bedroom and bathroom. It was fun to be with them. We took Mom to Twin to lunch and did some shopping with her on Monday. They left Tuesday morning. It rained all night Monday and all morning Tuesday so Lon didn't drive Tuesday or Wednesday morning. We went to the temple.
Karen Miller came to town on the 26th to celebrate my birthday. We went to the temple on the 26th and 27th. She took me to lunch at the Black Bear Diner. With Lon working it is nice to have company to fill my days. We had a wonderful time talking and laughing. Barbara Fuller is my childhood friend but Michele Price, Kim Orr and Karen Miller are my best friends who have been there for me since I got married. I lost Chele way too early but am so thankful that Karen came into my life about 20 years ago. But just like Chele, she moved to Jerome then they both moved to eastern Idaho. At least Kim has stayed put! Karen went with me to watch Eisley play in her basketball game.

Sunday the 28th I turned 67 years old. We had to talk in Sacrament Meeting today along with Preston Couch who is heading to St. George, Utah to serve a mission. I always get so scared when I have to talk but I think we did OK. Sarah and the kids came, Tracy was working, Kurt and Linda, Craig and Robbie, Cecilia Worthington, Julie McKay, The Doug Browns, and 2 leaders from Wood Badge that Lon worked with.
We have been worrying about what we would be doing on this mission as we had not heard from anyone from the mission as of yet. But Sunday afternoon our mission President and his wife called. We will be serving under President and Sister W. Todd Brotherson. They are from Virginia. They sounded so nice. We have an apartment to live in when we arrive! Our apartment is about 10 minutes from the mission home and mission office. We will have 3 assignments to start with. We will be in the mission office part of the time managing the mission apartments: scheduling repairs - finding new apartments as needed- working with landlords and that kind of stuff. Then we will be helping to set up a visitors center in the chapel beside the Temple for people to come and learn more about the church and temples, working with the young missionaries. And we will be serving in several Stakes who have asked to have Senior Missionaries come and help to activate endowed members who have fallen away and get them back to the temple. We are excited to be able to share our love for the temple with others and hopefully will be able to get them back to the temple with us. Santiago is 3 hours ahead of Idaho time and our mission boundaries are in the richest part of town. It is a very safe area. We have a car if we feel that we can drive in this huge city, but we will decide that after we get there. The bus and metro systems are very good and safe to use. We are so ready to get going, only 7 days till we fly to the MTC.

We ate at the Black Bear Diner. The food was great and the company was even better. Always fun to spend time with my little sister and Mom.
Chandler had his first band concert tonight. So glad that I was able to attend. Lon didn't get home early enough to go with me.
Love this young man. He is growing so fast. I have his black dress slacks in my arm to take home and let the hem down as they are getting too short.
Today is October the 31st, Mindi's birthday and Halloween
I lengthened Chandler's slacks two inches and I cut 4 inches off of Grandma Reid's new levis and got them hemmed. Lon will finish the beets today YEA!! Twenty-one 10-12 hour days. We have a few things to do yet so it will be good to have him home to help. We need to get rid of our bed, get international drivers permits, and have lunch with the Gibbon's, Kurt and Linda, Larry and Blanca, George and Kim, and Tracy's family to name a few of the things still on our to-do-list. We have 4 days to do it all. Our frig is almost bare so it is good that a few people want to feed us.
This will be my last post in this 2018 blog book. I will be starting our mission blog with November the 1st. And so we close this chapter of our lives and begin another. We will truly miss our family and friends but look forward to meeting the new friends that will come into our lives. We are thankful for technology that will help us keep connected to those we love, even though we are both technologically challenged. (We will use the young missionaries to fix what we screw up)
Don't start your day with the broken pieces of yesterday. Each morning is a new beginning.
