Monday, September the 1st, Labor Day. We golfed this morning then Lon got new tires on the truck. He again golfed in the afternoon with Phil. Lon and LaRon are getting ready for their big trip. LaRon has on his bucket list to take the Magruder Corridor from Elk City, Idaho to Darby, Montana. He bought a special car, has oversize tires put on it so it can handle the rough road, and they are getting ready to leave on Wednesday.
According to the internet, the Magruder Corridor is a 113-mile dirt road through the Frank Church and Selway -Clearwater wilderness areas. It is a one lane road most of the time with towering pine trees, majestic mountain views and is winding and steep with sheer cliff side driving and very few turnouts. It was named for Lloyd Magruder, a successful merchant in the 1860"s from Virginia City, Montana, who sold supplies to miners in exchange for gold. During one trip, 4 strangers robbed, killed and threw his body off a cliff. They then headed for San Francisco. One of Magruder's buddies' bounty-hunted the murderers and brought them back to Idaho for trial. They were hung in the capital in 1864.
You are told to being chain saw, shovel, bucket in case you have to clear the road to get through. There are no services and takes about 8 hours to go from Elk City to Darby.
Definitely not a road that I want to travel😖But LaRon is so excited, and we are glad that Lon is going with him in case he has trouble and needs help.

We left at 6:00 and headed to the Magruder Corridor. This is a long way away but something LaRon has wanted to do. We drove up through McCall then on to Elk City. That was a beautiful drive. Out of Elk City, we started on the Magruder. It was very different than we thought. All the forest was burnt but the road was bad, but not as bad as we thought it would be. We drove for 13 hours before camping at a nice camp site. We roasted hot dogs for supper. Went to bed around 9:00 and slept surprisingly well. I slept in a reclining camp chair in a tent while LaRon slept in the back of his car.
Got some good pictures but was a nice drive. We had smoke all the way. We were to go see some other places, but we both decided to head for home and go fishing tomorrow so that is what we did.

While they were gone, I worked our new shift, the Wednesday PM Shift, the Spanish night shift. The workers were a little uncomfortable with the former assistant to the Matron working alongside of them, but by the end of the evening, that feeling was gone. I'm so excited to be able to serve as a temple worker again, with no stress or responsibility!!
Lon and LaRon did go fishing on Friday and had a great day. We fed the missionaries that evening. We always serve Arepa's and as usual, they loved them.
Saturday the 6th, Shayla and Justin met us at 93 Golf Ranch at 1 and we were able to golf with them. It is so fun when we can golf with the kids. I did horrid on the first nine. We decided that I was just too rested up and needed to get tired before I could golf well. I did much better on the back nine when I was tired! We grabbed a quick supper at the Dairy Queen, and they headed for Boise. Nice Day!
Sunday, we began our practices for the "Messiah". Carson Wong and Sue Miller are going to help our stake perform this for Christmas. Lon was very hesitant about doing it but at the last minute decided to give it a try. After doing the "Lamb of God" last year, I know he is very capable. I am so excited to get to perform this piece again. It has been quite a few years since I sang it with the Magic Valley Chorale with Carson and Sue.
Monday, we golfed, then went shopping for laminate flooring for our front room and kitchen. Our existing carpet is awful. Lon has stretched it twice, but it just keeps wrinkling and there is no way to stretch it again. We'll keep the piano room and 3 bedrooms carpeted. Spent the afternoon getting bids and samples.
Lon and LaRon went fishing at CJ Strike on Tuesday. They had a beautiful day to be on the water, and our supply of crappie is growing.
We served on our Wednesday pm shift and had a great evening. The temple was full. It's fun to just arrive, get our assignments, and serve without any stress or training!!!
Thursday morning Lon and I again went golfing. We picked our flooring and scheduled with Brennen's to have it installed. They will pull up the bottom trim, carpets, lay overlay in the front room and lay the laminate and replace the bottom trim. I am excited! We enjoyed the 5:30 session at the temple.
Lon and George went fishing today. George hasn't been able to fish all year. They bank fished and ended up with 3 trout, 3 bass, and 1 perch. George even caught 4 crawdads😛but they didn't bring them home. 
That evening we went to the temple with Tracy and Sarah and did a sealing session. We met up with Eisley and went to Don Juan's for dinner. We just love our monthly temple and dinner dates with Tracy and Sarah.

Saturday morning, we headed back to the temple. Lon was assigned to be a sealer on the Mid shift and I was asked to be a substitute. It was the Jerome 2nd Ward Temple Day, so we were able to serve many of our ward family. It was very special.
We had to talk in Sacrament Meeting today. This is the 1st time in 3 years that we didn't talk about the temple. We were assigned to talk about The Word of Wisdom and Temperance. I took Temperance and really enjoyed studying and learning more about how to be temperate in all things. Lon took the Word of Wisdom. We did good. We took a much-needed nap, went to choir practice and greeted Gene Van Wagener, who is here for a golf marathon this week. Luckily the temple is closed for the next 2 weeks. We had no idea that Gene was coming to town until 2 days ago. Farrell and AnnaVee are coming in on Tuesday for Farrell's class reunion, so we brought the bed in from the bunk house for Gene to use and put it in the office.
Monday, Lon and Gene golfed 36 holes. Gene is 92.
Tuesday, they golfed 18 holes, came home for lunch and Farrell and AnnaVee arrived so the 3 men went back out and golfed another 18 holes. It was a very hard trip on AnnaVee so she slept most of the time. My job was to make sure there was food on the table when the golfers came home and to help AnnaVee in any way that I could.
Wednesday morning Craig and Robbie came down. The 4 men golfed 18 and had a great time. Robbie and I made sure that AnnaVee was ready for Farrell's class reunion that evening. She wasn't up to going but wouldn't disappoint Farrell. They were the last ones to leave, and she was totaled when she got back. Farrell was full of stories when he returned, and we didn't get to bed very early. Craig and Robbie went home after dinner. Kurt has been very sick all week, so he wasn't able to join the golfers this time.

Thursday morning Lon, Gene and Farrell did another 9 holes, then Farrell had to head for home but the other two did the back 9 before coming home for lunch and a nap. After the nap, Lon and Gene went back out for another 18 holes. Farrell and AnnaVee headed for home.
Friday morning the golfers played another 18 holes. Lon is really getting exhausted. Gene is like the energizer bunny. He just doesn't stop. He took us to lunch at the Chinese restaurant then headed for home. It was definitely a marathon week. Gene brought us up some pears from his orchard so we had to can pears. We ended up with 15 pints. We got the bed put back in the bunk house and spent Saturday resting from all the company. It has been a busy week.
Sunday the 21st, a very musical day: ward choir practice, sang in Sacrament Meeting, had our Messiah practice and then a Stake sing-along. Each ward picked one of the new hymns and we heard a little about the hymn and then sang them. Some of these new hymns are very different and will be hard to get used to.
Monday morning Lon and George went fishing again. It is so wonderful that George is feeling better and getting out of the house. Lon and I golfed at 4.
Tuesday morning the floor people came to begin putting down the laminate. We headed to Boise to see Scottie about Lon's tooth. It is bothering him. The tooth just had a new crown put on, but it is infected and the tooth has a big problem. It will have to be removed, and an implant put in. We met Craig and Robbie for lunch and headed home. The flooring is looking great.
Wednesday morning we headed to Kuna. Mike and Judy have been storing meat in our freezer. They are now settled into their new home and ready for the meat. We loaded up and headed out as the flooring people arrived. .jpg)

They have a beautiful new home. They are busy changing the yard to work for them. The house just seemed to be the exact home for them. All the furniture, pictures, ext. just fit perfectly. Mike even sold his work truck, he is finally retired for good. They are enjoying Kuna. We went to dinner at a Chinese restaurant then headed for home.

We are very pleased with the result. LaRon came over on Thursday evening, after the fishing trip to Magic, and helped get the stove pipe, stove, and heavy furniture put back in place.
Friday the 26th, Lon and I golfed in the morning, and we went to Hazelton that afternoon for his Valley High School class get together. It was a spur of the moment event, so we only had about 15 classmates in attendance. We were going to have a picnic, but the wind was blowing so bad that we went inside.
The get together was at Bruce and Mary Kroll's new home.

A few of the classmates ended up at the Valley Viking's football game that evening. The wind was blowing so bad that we decided to go home. The next morning, Saturday the 27th, a few met at the Depot Grill for breakfast and more visiting.

Monday morning, Tracy, Sarah, Eisley and Ashton picked us up and we headed to Boise yet again for Eisley to be inducted into the Air National Guard. Eisley will have monthly drills and then next summer head to basic training. She is going into the Security Forces. She wants to pursue law enforcement as a career, following in the footsteps of her father.

Lon finished off the month with another fishing trip with LaRon.
Busy month spent with family and friends. Looking forward to being back in the temple. Two weeks off just seems like such a long time!
