Lon was asked to document his service in the Boy Scouts of America. His journal keeping is amazing as we just had to go back and check his journals for the dates and positions. While we were at it, we made a list of all his church callings along with the Scout Positions. It was amazing to see how precise Lon's journal keeping is and how it helped us yet again to document things.
Well, I decided to try and document my callings, with the help of any journals that I have kept over the years. I am not a good journal keeper so I don't have a lot of dates to document. Hopefully our grandchildren will learn from my mistakes and follow the example of their grandfather. Here are a few of the interesting things that we found out:
Lon's callings: He has served in every aspect of scouting; Webelos, Scout Master two times, Varsity Leader, Explorer Leader, and various positions on the Scout Committee. He was the priesthood pianist. He has been a teacher in Primary, Sunday School, and High Priest group; he was a Regional Athletic Director, a counselor in the Bishopric and a Bishop, an Elders Quorum President and a secretary to the Elders Quorum; and is currently the 1st assistant to the High Priest Quorum.
Nancy's Callings: I have been a Primary President, Young Women President twice, and a Relief Society President. I have been the pianist for Junior Sunday School, Junior Primary (while in high school), Senior Sunday School, Primary, the Ward Organist and even played for Priesthood when Lon was not able to play. I have been the Choir Director at least 4 times and the Ward Music Chairman several times, also the Primary Chorister and Sunday School Chorister. I am presently the Choir Director and the Primary Pianist.
Of course the callings that we both cherish the most have been Temple Ordinance Workers, sealer, 1st and 2nd counselor in the Guatemala City Temple and assistant to the Matron. We currently serve in the Twin Falls Temple. Lon is a Sealer and I am an attendant when needed. We love serving in the Temple and attending the temple whenever we can. It is so wonderful to leave the world outside and enjoy feeling close to our Heavenly Father as we serve in His Holy House.
It was interesting to reflect on our service over the years. It brought back memories of people and places, good times and hard times. We have a list of all the callings that we could remember documented on my computer if anyone wants to see the complete list after we are gone (unless I blow up this computer like I have ones in the past)
March began with us subbing in the Temple on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday the 1st through the 3rd. That made us in the Temple all 5 days that week. Friday was the toughest day, we served on the mid shift - from 9:30 to 4:30, then we did the 5 and 7 o'clock sessions and then cleaned the Temple with our ward at 8:30. Then back to the Temple for the AM Shift on Saturday morning. Wow, and we worried about being bored when we returned from our missions!
The high light of this month was getting to attend the Temple with Tracy and Sarah on the 10th. This was our Christmas gift from them. We did a session and then went out to lunch at Idaho Joe's and then shopping at Costco. It was so fun to spend time with them.
Connie called on Sunday the 11th to let us know that Mom was not doing too good. I got her to the Doctor's on Monday morning and she has a respiratory virus and is coughing a lot. Judy came to stay with her on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon while we were at the temple and I spent each day with her till Saturday. She is very week and unstable on her feet but by Friday afternoon seems to be getting better. I had to be out to the house before 7 so Connie could head for work. So thankful that there are 3 of us here to help Mom when needed.
We only golfed 3 days in March as the weather was so unpredictable. We golfed on the 12th and then woke up to this on the 17th.
This was really depressing but it melted fast as we golfed again on Monday the 19th. Then we didn't golf again till the 30th.
We picked up Ysidro and Maria Gonzales on the 17th and did a sealing session with them. Then we went to dinner at the Sizzler again.
We enjoyed watching the basketball games as March Madness played out. Lon and Ginger always compete to see who can guess the winners so it makes it interesting to follow the tournaments. The first sessions of General Conference were on the 31st. Lon was released as the 1st assistant to the High Priest Group as the High Priest groups were disbanded by President Nelson during the Priesthood Session. He also announced that Visiting Teaching and Home Teaching are no more, now we will be Ministering Brothers and Sisters. It will be interesting to see how all of this plays out. So thankful for revelation from our Heavenly Father. Looking forward to the rest of Conference tomorrow to see what other changes are announced. It has been a great conference so far. March has come to an end "like a lamb" as it is supposed to. The weather has softened and the days are warmer. "Be strong enough to stand alone; smart enough to know when you need help; and brave enough to ask for it when needed"!
