We had a treat on September 2nd when Justin and Shayla came down early for the football game and we all got to golf 9 holes at 93. We look forward to this football season for Mason. He is a senior and Justin and Shayla are trying to make it to all of his games, which means that we will get to see them almost every week. His first game on the 2nd was against American Falls and Kimberly won big.

Ashton tried out for the Soccer team at O'leary Middle School and made the team. His team had a rough start with 3 different coaches in two weeks so they are struggling a bit this year. They are also much smaller than the other teams as they only have a couple of 8th graders on their team and the other teams have at least half.

It didn't matter who guarded him ----
or who he guarded, they were all giants. We were only able to attend 3 out of his 7 games this month as he plays on Monday's and Wednesday's and we are in the temple on Wednesday's. They haven't won a game yet but have now scored and are improving with a steady coach finally.
We were given some peaches on the 6th so the morning of the 7th we started to can them.
We got them all sorted and everything but the one small cake pan full was ready to go NOW.
So thankful for Lon's help with the canning!!
We ended up with 49 quarts, the last 7 are still in the cooker. We didn't have any left so this is great to have them in storage for the winter.
Lon has been asked to help drive truck for Cody Bingham in the beet harvest. It only lasts a few weeks and Cody will work around our temple days so Lon agreed.

They started on the 20th so Lon headed to the fields as soon as we got home from our morning shift. It was a really long day for him, 4:30am to 11am in the temple and 12:pm til 8pm in the truck. He worked for 6 hours on Wednesday morning before our shift and then the rains began. It rained so much that the fields were too muddy to dig beets. Sad that they couldn't get done with the early beets but so glad that Lon was able to go to the Kimberly Homecoming Game with me that Friday.
Wood River is really good this year and we were afraid that Kimberly wouldn't be able to win this one. It was a great game and Kimberly pulled it off at the end. Mason had a great game again. He was also crowned the Homecoming King!

It was a very cold and windy night but we are so glad that we were able to share this night with Mason. They are now 4-0 on the season.
Brothers came to town on the 17th
Farrell and his friend Mike came up from Utah to golf for a couple of days. Lon and I subbed at the temple on Friday so we weren't able to see them so Saturday morning we ran to Twin to have lunch with them and Craig and Robbie before they all left for home. It is always so fun to visit with family.
Lon finished the early beets on the 26th and they have a break for a week before they start up again.
We were able to attend church with Sarah and the kids on the 25th. Tracy came straight from work to ordain Chandler to the office of a Teacher. It is so fun to be able to participate with our grandchildren in these important steps in their lives.
Time for camping/fishing with the Orr's
We headed to Magic Reservoir on the 28th and set up camp.

I am standing where the water is in the middle of the summer. Lon looks like an ant fishing.
George couldn't get to the water from here so after not getting any bites from this side, they loaded up in the pickup and tried several other areas before dark. George ended up landing 2 fish and Lon didn't even get a nibble all day. No fish for supper so we settled on (were delighted with) George's taco soup for supper.
George is always the camp cook. Breakfast is Lon's favorite: pancakes, eggs, bacon!
We loaded into George's pickup and headed to do some sight-seeing. We found our way to the Hayspur Fish Hatchery and the poles went into the water.
The fish were biting so quickly that they soon forgot their second pole and I had to help net the fish as they both had fish on at the same time.
Lon landed the biggest fish, 24 inches long and 6 pounds. They limited out. This one fed the four of us for our supper. Boy, was it tasty!!
While we were fishing, someone yelled "moose" and we were thrilled to see this one just before he ran behind the shed.
As we drove away, we kept our eyes open and spotted two other moose.

We saw moose, deer, antelope, fish, geese, ducks, and pelicans.
We drove up to Ketchum to see the fall colors.

We drove our car up to Magic along with the pickup and camper so that we could drive to Gooding on Friday evening to watch Mason play football. We left about 5:30 and got to the game about 6:30. Shayla and Justin were already there. With about 4 minutes to go in the first half, the lightning started and the game was postponed. We waited around for about a half hour and decided to head back to Magic as it was uncertain when or if the game would resume. We had lightning and rain all the way back to Magic. The game did resume but had another delay in the second half. We were glad that we didn't stay, however we missed a great game. Kimberly did win, the first time they have beaten Gooding since 2012 and Mason again had a great game. They are now 5-0 on the season.
As another month comes to a close, I would like to share this quote with our children and grandchildren.
