August and the corn is ready to eat

     The garden is looking great and we have been enjoying zucchini, cucumbers, potatoes and the corn is now ready to eat.

The pumpkin, squash, cantaloupe and watermelon are not ready yet.  The onions are huge and the peppers are ready but we don't eat those.  Kim and George have either eaten or given away all of the beans and peas and cabbage.

  Kim needs corn this year so we picked and froze the first picking of corn for her while she was at work.  Keeping this weeded has kept us busy.  We try to go out every Monday and spend a few hours to keep ahead of the weeds.

  On the 4th of August the Thompson brothers got together for a Sibling Reunion.  Lynn and Ken were not able to attend.  This was the first time that a golf game wasn't the center of the reunion.  Lon and Farrell golfed a quick 9 and then we all met at Kurt and Linda's home for lunch.  Ken is recovering from his stroke and Larry is recovering from a minor surgery.  We are getting older!  We ordered the 3 foot sandwiches from Subway so that no one had to cook.  It was nice to sit and visit and get caught up on everyone's families.

Our month was centered around our temple service.  The temple was open for 22 days in August and I served there 15 of those days and Lon 12 of them.  It is so nice to have a temple so close.

The 20th was corn day!  Tracy and his family came over and we worked together to get corn in the freezer for the winter.

                             Eisley, Tracy, Chandler and Tracy husking the corn.  Lon had gone to pick black berries before the kids got there.  He came home with 4 gallons and went out again that evening and picked 2 more gallons.  The freezer is filling up!

Lon and Tracy cut it off the cob while Sarah, Eisley and Ashton bagged it.

Chandler did all the cooking and Ashton was our runner taking raw corn out and cooked corn in.

We ended up with 48 quarts and it only took about 3 hours.  Wow!!  Having this much help sure took the work out of this job.  Oh--I did help!  I washed the corn and got it cooled down for the cutters.

Lon and George had the opportunity to go fishing and Lon got the biggest one this trip.

The fish were all pink meated and the fillets are in the freezer for the winter also. 

     This month our grandchildren started to school again.  The summer just flew by for us all.  As this blog is my way of saving pictures I just have to include these photos of some very special people.

Our 14 grandchildren are growing up and becoming such great people.  They are loving and kind and each are working hard as this new school year has begun.  They are always in our thoughts and prayers.

Chandler had a birthday wish that surprised and thrilled us.  He wanted to spend time with his Grandfather.  First they picked blackberries.(actually all three of us went and picked a gallon for us and two for the Orr's)  Then they made a pie.

Chandler spent the night with us after picking the berries and making the pie so that he and grandpa could go fishing.  They went to Magic Resevour and spent the day with George, Jordan and Cooper, but they did not land any fish.  It is called fishing, not catching--but all had a great time.

     Another month is history.  This year is going so fast.  I read the following and it really hit home for me. 

Don't wait for things to get easier, simpler, or better.

Life will always be complicated.

Learn to be happy right now,

Otherwise, you'll run out of time.

I plan on greeting each new day with a smile and cherishing each moment, making the best of the not so good ones and reveling in the great ones.  I love life.  I love my family.  I love my Savior, Jesus Christ.  Good bye August and Hello to September
