October 2024

 October opened with continued beautiful fall weather.  We opened three days this week and closed on Friday.  Lon was able to golf each afternoon.  General Conference was on the 5th and 6th.  It was a wonderful conference, and we enjoyed watching it.  Time just seems to go by faster and faster.  Suddenly a whole week has come and gone and it's Monday the 7th.

Craig and Robbie came down to get zoned at Jennifer's and after a quick sandwich, the men all went golfing, Lon, Craig, Kurt and Phillip Warren.  Lon and Phil finally won; they were so happy.  We went out to Kurt and Linda's to visit while they were golfing.  I took out fixings for taco salad and we enjoyed a nice supper when the men got home.

We tried to get Craig and Robbie on the road before dark, but we talked too long, and they had a dark ride home to Boise.  Lon and I went to Beckie Clarkson's house to look at the tools that she wants to give away.  She has sold the house and bought one in Washington close to her daughter, Tamera, so she can be Maddie's daytime care giver.  Lon found some tools that he could use, and Beckie was thrilled that he took them.  Dirk would have been happy too.  She is leaving in a week.  

We are on the pm shift this week, 3 days.  We went to the temple on Thursday early to do an endowment session before we started our shift.  In the middle of the session, an 85-year-old woman went down.  We thought she was dead.  Lon ordered an ambulance while I got the room cleared of all the participants.  The lady came too and seemed to know where she was and who she was.  We got her into a wheelchair and downstairs to meet the ambulance.  She spent the night in the hospital and is doing well.  Those kinds of things are my worst nightmares of this calling.  There are so many aging and ill patrons who come so faithfully.  It really scares me that one of them will die on our watch.  

We got up early on Friday and drove to Shayla's house in Boise.  Ginger had flown in on Thursday.  Shayla had breakfast pizza ready for us.  It is soo good.  Then Shayla, Ginger, Craig, Robbie, Lon and I met at the golf course.  Tracy was able to join us as his class got over early today.  Lon, Ginger and Tracy played a three-some and Craig, Robbie, Shayla and I did a foursome.  The weather was great, and we had a good time.

We had told everyone to get a photo, but the threesome forgot😟 We did 18 holes. Tracy headed for home but the rest of us went to dinner at a Mexican Restaurant.

We headed to Craig and Robbie's to put on long pants and grab sweatshirts as the evenings are getting pretty chilly.  We went to watch Jeff play football.  Jeff is Ryan's son, Craig and Robbie's grandson.  We got to visit with Ryan and Kylie and Cassie and Stephen.  It was a very fun evening and Jeff really played well, and Rocky Mountain won.  

Saturday morning Lon and Craig golfed a quick 9 holes while Robbie and I did some shopping.  After lunch, we headed to Nampa for Hayley and Matthew's wedding and reception (the reason for the trip to Boise in the first place).

The wedding was held outside.  The weather really was wonderful for October the 12th.

We enjoyed a full BBQ tri-tip dinner.  The reception was beautiful.  We took 2nd place in the couple's dance. 

The first-place couple had been married for 57 years and us for only 52.  We enjoyed being with Doug and Debbie and their family, Mike and Judy, Ginger and Justin and Shayla.  We left about 6:30 so we could get through Boise while it was still daylight.  We got home and watched the BSU/Hawaii football game which didn't get over till 1AM.😝 It's a good thing BSU won! 

The 12th was our first great granddaughter's one year birthday.  Wish we could have been there but can't be in two places at once.

Sunday we were just a little rummy from lack of sleep.  After a good nap, Lon got 4 pies made as prizes for the Temple President's Golf Scramble on Monday.

Monday morning the Temple Presidency met at the temple to attend the Monday Cleaners preparation meeting then set the workers apart as Ordinance Workers, assigned to cleaning.  The golf scramble started about 12:30. They had 6 teams, 4- foursome, 1 threesome, and a twosome.  Almost all were Ordinance Workers.  It was a lot of fun, and they hope to do it again in the spring.

On the 15th, Lon and Laron met Harvey Neal at CJ Strike to do some crappie fishing.

We traded shifts with the Taylors this week, so we worked on Thursday evening.  When we got off, we ran out to the airport to meet Ashton's plane.  He is flying in from his mission in Korea.  It's hard to believe that 2 years have gone by.

Because we traded with Taylors, we had Friday off, so we went on a drive with George and Kim to the South Hills.

We ended up at the Depot Grill for supper.  A great day with great friends.

Sunday the 20th, we attended our ward meetings then went to Twin to hear Ashton give his coming home speech.  He did a great job, talking about his mission challenges and blessings. We had lunch at Tracy and Sarah's with family and friends of Ashton.  It was a very good day.  We are happy to have Ashton home. 

Lon and Laron went fishing on Monday and had a good day catching a lot of fish.  But Lon's truck wouldn't start, oh no!! Now what!

We ended the month with our big week, 3 mornings and 2 nights so we don't do much but attend the temple on these weeks.  We are just too tired.

We celebrated my 73rd birthday by going to Oakley to visit with Tim and Ray Archibald and their wives.  They are all ordinance workers in the Temple and are also relatives.  Their great grandfather and Lon's are the same person.  Tim had back surgery, so we visited in his home for a while, then went to see their wood cutting set-up.

We drove back to Burley and met up with the Gibbons for lunch.  We ran into Derlin Taylor and Sister Susan Young at the restaurant.  Fun afternoon.  We drove to Twin Falls and shopped for new flowers and flower vases for the front yard.  

Ashton came over and helped Lon get them set up and took the old ones to the back yard.

Our first great grandson, 2nd great grandchild, came into the world on October 31, 2024.  Weston Walker Dow, 6 pounds 15 ounces, was born on his grandmother Mindi's birthday, Halloween!

And October has come to an end.  We are enjoying a mild autumn but know that winter is just around the corner.  Time seems to be speeding by.  We are excited for the holidays and getting to be with our family.
