June 1st started the month on a very special note. We opened today and had the privilege of giving the instruction to a couple who came to the temple for the first time. It's always special when you know the couple, Bill McCoughey and his wife Diana Dick. We have known them our whole lives and honestly never thought that this day was possible because Bill was such a devout Catholic. They received their endowment and were sealed that afternoon. What a tender mercy to be on shift when they came.
After a nice 2-hour nap, we met up with Tracy, Sarah, Chandler and Eisley for dinner to celebrate Tracy's 48th birthday. We ate at a new Mexican restaurant; food was OK but not a place to go back to. We had a wonderful visit.
On the 8th, Saturday afternoon, we had just gotten to the temple for our evening shift when I had another minears attack. We are both getting so tired of this. Hopefully I can get my strength back and stop these. I handled a whole year and a half without one, but these last few months have been tough. I think my body is just exhausted. This is by far the toughest "mission" we have done. The hours and stress are worse than any of our missions. Poor Lon handled Saturday, Tuesday and Wednesday PM shifts without me. I made it to our TLC meeting on Thursday the 13th and stayed to close with Lon. It felt good to be back in the temple. Our meeting lasted for 3 hours! (big changes coming) But I won't publish this till they happen as we have been asked to not say anything by an apostle of the Lord.
On the 14th, Lon and LaRon spent the day spreading rock in our back yard.
I made it to church on Sunday, starting to feel much better. I will try to take it easy for a few weeks. Lon and LaRon took off on the 17th to Owyhee reservoir to fish. They took a tent to spend the night. The fishing was good and brought home about 35 nice crappie. That evening as they tried to pull the boat out of the water, the truck had no power. Prayers were answered, and they got back to camp with the truck and boat. Now there were questions that needed answered; do they drive the truck home? do they need to leave it in Weiser? will it damage the truck more to drive it? With no cell service for miles, Lon spent the night with little sleep and a lot of praying. About 5:30 Wednesday morning Lon had the impression that they should drive the truck home, and the Lord would bless them to get there. And He did. They got home about 10am and took the truck out to Fred, our mechanic. He thinks it is the injectors going out, expensive! We can't drive the truck, so Kurt let us borrow his pick-up till ours is fixed.
June 22nd, our 52nd wedding anniversary. We opened this morning and got to spend our anniversary in our favorite place. Lon was asked to perform a sealing, and I was able to attend so it was a great day. We had a good nap afterword and went to eat at our new favorite Mexican restaurant.
Sunday the 23rd, we spoke in the Twin Falls Spanish Ward. I think it went well. They were surprised when we didn't need translators, and both spoke in Spanish. It is fun to visit the wards and see the regulars who come to the temple. Hopefully we were able to encourage others to come. Our Spanish friends are not attending as faithfully as we had hoped they would. We went to visit with Dirk and Beckie Clarkson this afternoon. Dirk is on dialysis 12 hours a day, and it is not working. His doctors want him to increase it by 7 more hours. Dirk said, "enough". He is going off his dialysis on July the 5th so we know he won't last much longer. He has suffered for so long. It was hard to say good-bye. We will miss him.
The last week of June. This month has just flown by. We opened 3 days and closed 2, our big week. I didn't go in on Wednesday till 7:30. There is not much going on from 3:30 till then so Lon handled it alone. We are trying to take it easier for me so that I don't go down again. Our TLC meetings are very interesting and long as we work on the new changes that are coming.
On Sunday the 30th, we were privileged to speak in the Burley Spanish Ward. It went very well. Again, we were thrilled to be with so many of our temple family and hope that we were able to encourage others to come to the temple. I used the same talk as last week. We got home, grabbed a bite to eat and went to church with Mom at Serenity. Then we headed to the temple. We were able to preview the new endowment film and see the changes that are coming. Our changes last year made the job of an officiator much easier; this change is just the opposite. Our officiators had better be alert (and awake). They are going from pushing buttons to being very involved! We are so thrilled to be able to participate in this new change. We are thrilled that our living Prophet continues to receive revelations that will bless our temple family. We have a lot of work to be ready for the 11th of August when we share these changes with our Shift Coordinators. Then on the 13th we begin.
