October 2022

 Saturday October the 1st, the temple is closed for General Conference, and we are blessed to be able to watch it later as we get to spend the day with Shayla, Justin, Gideon and Mason.  Gideon is home for 2 weeks before he ships out to his next assignment, a hospital in Japan with the navy.

It was a beautiful fall day.  We were thrilled when Mason showed up to golf also.

We went to Idaho Joe's for lunch after the golfing and celebrated Shayla's birthday, which is on the 2nd.  What a great way to start a new month.  We got home in time to watch the evening session of General Conference and then the Saturday morning session.   Sunday, we spent most of the day watching conference.  We watched Saturday and Sunday sessions.  It was a great conference again.  We just love to be taught by our General Authorities.

On October the 8th we finished our round of introducing ourselves to the 15 shifts and we began our new schedule on the 11th.  We are now going to serve on the morning shift for one week, then on the PM shift for one week with the next week off.  Of course, we will always have presidency meetings on Tuesday mornings at 11 so we will only have 4 days off officially.  The week of the 11-15th was our week off, which was good as Judy and Mike went to the cabin and I was able to visit with Mom all week.  

On the 15th, Lon and Craig went golfing while Robbie and I enjoyed the day visiting.  We stayed the night and headed to Shayla's the next morning for breakfast and to say good-bye to Gideon as he ships out this weekend.

We will now have 2 grandsons in Japan.  Isaac is there serving the last year of his mission.  It would be so great is these two cousins could hook up some time.

We met in the temple on the 16th to meet with the office staff of the temple, to introduce ourselves and our mission statement to them at 4:00.  Then at 5:00 the Shift Coordinators came for a meeting.  It is wonderful to get to know these people that we will be working closely with these next 3 years.

We began our first AM shift on the 18th.  Wow, that is a change.  We open the temple at 5am on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  Wednesday is the killer.  We have to open the doors at 3:30am!  We decided not to come home and take naps on our AM shifts so that we can go to bed early.  We crawled into bed about 7:30 each night and were able to get up early.  I think we will like this arrangement.  Our bodies adjusted to the early morning well and the days just flew by for us.  

We went to dinner on Friday evening with Tracy and his family to celebrate my birthday.  We went to Janitzio's and enjoyed being together. 

We had the PM shift the last week of the month.  It is amazing just how much training we do each day.  We are still nervous about using all the technology to help us train but thank goodness we have help when we goof up things.  We are so thankful for ongoing training from our General Authorities.  We had a conference call with training on October the 25th from Brother Simmons from the Temple Department and Elder's Bednar and Gong.  We have so much to learn and so much to teach.  

Our highlight for the month was on the 30th.  We met at Tracy and Sarah's home where Tracy conferred the Melquisedec Priesthood on Ashton and gave him a beautiful blessing.  Sarah's dad, Steve and his wife Bev came down also.  Sarah fed us soup and rolls.  It was a nice afternoon.  

And October has come and gone.  If you want more details about fishing trips, golf days or just a different perspective on the month, you'll have to read Lon's journal. He goes into more daily detail than I do, but all in all, it was a very busy month, and it went by very fast.   Life is great.  We are loving our new calling.  Having the temple as your second home is pretty cool!
