February has been so cold. The wind has been blowing between 20 to 40 miles an hour almost daily. That really makes it seem even colder than the temperature says it is. The ground-hog saw his shadow so we are to have 6 more weeks of winter. YUK!
Judy and I were able to receive our first covid-19 vaccination at Mom's care center. We weren't supposed to be able to after all but because we are there 3 to 4 days a week, we were labelled as volunteers. We had no side effects from this first shot. Mom got her 2nd shot the same day (2/3) She has not felt good for a couple of days after the shot but nothing serious. Lon got his first shot a week later at R&R Pharmacy.
We were thrilled to be able to actually visit Mom in person on the 4th. Judy and I and Mom met in the conference room and were to stay 6 feet apart with masks on. Mom asked us to take the masks off so she could actually hear us and we did get hugs as the door closed! Then on Saturday, Connie and Debbie were able to visit in person as well. It was a great week for Mom!
On Saturday the 6th we went to Wendell to watch Eisley play a basketball game. She is playing on a club team. They haven't been letting people come to the games, but with our covid numbers dropping steadily, they allowed 4 people per athlete to attend.
Eisley isn't the tallest person on the court anymore. Her little team is filled with girls who have never played before so they haven't won a game yet, but seem to be enjoying this experience

On the 4th, we started our first class with our English Connect 1 assignment at 7:00pm. We were thrilled to have 4 young men come, all 4 are not members. We thought that it went pretty good. We will see if they all come back next week and do their homework. We haven't given them the books yet, just copied pages of the first 2 lessons to see if they are serious about the course.
On Tuesday the 9th we had our afternoon English class at 2:00pm. We had 3 ladies, all members, come. They are way ahead of the men and the class went much smoother than the first one. We think these three will definately be back next week.
On the 11th we had our second Thursday night class. 3 of the original 4 came and one new man. The lesson went too long, I've got to do better next week. Lon told me but I didn't hear him😞 The lesson just had too much to cover in an hour. We'll do better on Tuesday. Our poor young men get the practice lesson and our ladies get the improved lesson. This is a very enjoyable assignment.
We again got to visit with Mom in person on the 19th. She is not doing great. We think she is having little mini-strokes. She is very weak and some days cannot even get out of her chair and into her wheel chair when we come to visit at the window. Judy and I were again allowed inside to visit on the 25th and Connie and Debbie on the 26th. Our visits really buoy her up.
Judy and I got our second covid-19 vaccination on the 24th. The morning of the 25th when we got to visit Mom, Judy was feeling very crummy but I felt fine. I was feeling very fortunate until about 4pm when the chills and body aches hit me. I was not able to attend our English class and felt crummy all day Friday as well. By Saturday, all is well. I had the Pfiser shot. Lon will get his second one next week and he had the Moderna shot. Hopefully he won't have any side effects.
Monday the 22nd, Lon and Junior Robinson decided it was warm (50) so they went to the Muni in Twin Falls to golf. They had a great time but as you can see, there is still a little snow on the ground.

Junior is now 87 years young. I think I will wait till March to try!
Lon and George decided to try fishing on the 25th. It was a cold windy day but they had nothing better to do so off they went to Salmon Falls Reservoir. But they ended up at Bell Rapids on the Snake River to fish. The fishing and catching was very good but Lon caught something new.

We still only have Sacrament meeting in person for whoever feels comfortable coming to the chapel. All of the other second hour meetings, except for the Young Men's and Young Women's, are held online. Our covid-19 numbers here in Idaho keep going down and many people are getting their vaccinations so we are hopeful that we will soon be able to meet together. Our world really needs a hug. People are just irritable and sad and social distancing just is wrong. We all need hugs!
We have had 5 different students on Tuesday afternoons and 6 different students on Thursday evenings coming to our English Connect classes. We are really enjoying these classes. You never know who will show up but all of our students are so friendly and loving.
We are teaching conversational English so we try to teach them how we really talk. For instance: I like to sing is really pronounced I like tuh sing. The Spanish alphabet is pronounced exactly the same way every time so it is easy to read once you understand the alphabet. But the English alphabet😡it can be real confusing for our students.
I'm thankful that I am not trying to learn how to speak English!!
We are now done with the coldest months of the winter. Yeah! We are looking forward to spring and sunshine.
