In the church parking lot - not one high-rise in sight!!
We presented a talk by Elder Falabela about how to invite someone to learn more about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and handed out invitations for their Capilla Abierta on the 14th. As we were heading home, about 5 miles down the road, President Barrales called to tell us that Elder Thompson had left his iPad and he had it at his house.

We turned around and headed back immediately. Without the iPad there would be no notifications about college sports and that would not be acceptable!
When we arrived at the home of the Barrales's, they had the table set and food for us to eat. We enjoyed a couple of hours visiting and eating. We didn't get away without gifts to try.
Home made pesto which is delicious and spaghetti sauce . The candy was a gift from the youngest daughter, she thought we needed a taste from home.
What a nice way to start off a new month and a new week.
Monday we didn't have a pouch run as this week is Zone Conferences and everyone picks up the mail after the conference. We took advantage of having a Monday morning to take care of a couple of service calls and the last home that needed new fotos taken. The traffic is starting to pick up as school is back in session. Summer break has come to an end and people are back in town. It also brings back the demonstrations/protests/violence/destruction.

Violence resurges in protest-racked
Chile, nearly 300 arrested

SANTIAGO (Reuters) - A resurgence of violence ripped across
Chile late on Monday evening, leading to hundreds of arrests, according to the
interior ministry, and temporarily shutting down some public transportation in
the capital Santiago.
The city of 6 million saw raucous protesters force several metro
stations to close, hobbling downtown transportation. Rioters burning barricades
on several major streets also prompted bus lines to temporarily halt service.
Interior minister Gonzalo Blumel, cited on the ministry’s
official Twitter account, said police detained 283 people following clashes in
which protesters lodged rocks and bricks at security forces. Seventy-six police
were injured and several police stations were attacked, Blumel said on Twitter.
“During the night, what we saw was crime, pure and simple,”
Blumel said.
Tuesday morning we enjoyed our temple shift. There were not many temple workers there because of the protest on Monday night. When we have a skeleton crew it really keeps everyone hopping to meet the needs of our patrons who come.
We got to the office about 3 and were put on hospital watch. We have 3 missionaries who are having some problems and have appointments for biopsy's and other procedures. With Zone Conferences starting on Wednesday morning, Hermana Brotherson needs help getting them to and from the hospital. We ended up with Hermana Arosemena spending Tuesday night with us. She slept good and we took her home Wednesday morning. We got to the office just in time to head to the hospital to pick up Elder Prieto and Elder Elms and take them home, and got back to the office just in time to head to the hospital again and pick up Elder Moon and Elder Lott and get them delivered to their apartment. It was a full day of driving but all 3 patients are doing great and are safe and sound in their apartments. Tuesday evening we had a bicycle rally right in front of our apartment building. We are 7 floors up and we hear a lot of commotion outside so we looked out and there were hundreds of bikes going down Cristobal Colon. They filled up one side of the road and it took a half hour for the rally to get past us.
Hermana Zacharias has been home from her mission for almost a year now. She came back for a visit this week. She is from Argentina. It was great to visit with her.

It was a peaceful event in our area.
We now have 3 confirmed cases of the coronavirus here in Chile. Maybe that will keep some of the demonstrations smaller. We spent Thursday morning in the temple and the afternoon in the office helping the secretaries with projects that they are behind on. Friday morning we were out and about with some service. We passed two demonstrations, both by high school kids in their school uniforms. One was just walking down the road with their banners and chants and the other had set a fire in the bus lane of traffic.
The President has set up a nightly devotional for the mission at 10:15pm. He shares any news about protests and leaves the missionaries with a scripture to ponder. So far we have not had to change any of our schedules but the young missionaries have to check bus and train lines to make sure they are running. Everyone has a 2 week supply of food and a 72 hour kit for emergencies. Those who have been through the riots of last October are definitely prepared this time. October caught us off guard and we were not prepared.
Saturday morning we did some shopping for us and for the mission. We had to deliver a mattress and a table to one of the pensiones It took way longer than expected as the traffic was horrible. Elder Thompson made banana bread with the last of the banana's and nuts. We are running out of baking materials and don't intend to purchase more. It's time to empty the pantry.

We know that we are in the hands of our loving Heavenly Father and we are being watched over by angels. We send our love.
