We then did 4 service calls. With all of our time spent this past week on the visa paperwork, we haven't gotten much else done. It was a full Saturday.
It is cambio (transfer) week in our mission. That is always a busy time for us. We said good-bye to 17 missionaries this cambio. We never know who is going where until Monday morning and we have to get beds to the homes that don't have enough in them by Tuesday afternoon. I quizzed the assistants to the President about having surprises this time and they assured me that there were none. Ha Ha! They forgot about putting a trio together! We went shopping for the food needed to feed our group at the Temple housing and for their breakfast Tuesday morning at the mission office. We headed to the temple housing about 6:30. The temple missionaries were there right at 7 to help get the 13 beds made and sandwiches made. We have 11 missionaries coming in Monday evening and another 8 coming in on Tuesday morning. 19 new missionaries!

They didn't arrive till 11:30 pm! They arrived starved and excited. It was only 8:30 for them with the time change from Mexico so they were in no hurry to head for bed. We didn't get to bed till 1am. It was a very short night as we had to be up and ready to leave by 7:30. They headed to the mission office and we headed to the temple. We are still only doing a partial schedule at the temple. We arrive for preparation meeting at 8 and we are finished around 1. The afternoon shift comes in about 12:30 and leave after the 2:30 session.
On Tuesday afternoon these young people meet their new companions/trainers and head to their new homes. At 5pm we are planning to head to Gabriella to take 4 missionaries who couldn't get a member to transport them. At 6 we are planning to head to the airport to transport 2 missionaries who are leaving the mission early due to health issues. At 6:15 we are now planning on the trip to Gabriella again and by 7 we actually take Hermana Brotherson home and go straight home!
With cambios and new people in pensions, we really get quite a few service calls. The ones who lived in the pension usually just put up with a problem and when someone new moves in they let us know about the problems. So we were busy all week taking care of the little things and assigning the bigger jobs to our contractors.
On Thursday we met with the new missionaries and their trainers and presented our cleaning power point. We can see a difference with the pensions since we started our mission. We still have a few that drive us nuts but on the whole we are very pleased with the effort these young missionaries are putting into taking care of their homes.
We left right after and headed to the airport. The Hughes landed in Santiago about 1pm from their trip to the south of Chile and to Peru for the last 2 weeks. We have the rest of their luggage and they are flying home today about 9:30pm. They had a wonderful trip and are excited to be going home to be with their family.
They are not pointing to Elder Hughes' stomach! The tie was a gift from a missionary and they wanted him to know that it was being used. Hermana Hughes tweaked her knee on the trip and was using a cane. We arrived at the airport but could not find the parking. We went around and around the airport, following the "estacionamiento" signs (parking) but could not find the parking garage. The airport is under construction and everything is messed up. We finally called Elder Hughes and told him to meet us out front and get the bags and we would just head for home. He met us and climbed in to get us to the parking garage. And the sign said "express" ? What does that have to do with parking?
We had a nice lunch with the Hughes and got them to their gate. We will miss these two. We are so happy that we were able to serve with them for this past year. We toured Santiago with them when everything was peaceful and beautiful. So thankful that we did cause now some of those beautiful places have graffiti all over them. We will visit with the Hughes again when we get home. They live in Washington, Utah (St. George area). These two were such an asset to our mission and they will be missed.
Today is Saturday and we did two service calls this morning. We got each others hair cut and made a cake for tomorrow. It has been a busy week and it feels good to finally sit down (7:00pm) and put our feet up. Our new missionaries are going to be great. They each are so positive and excited to be here. It will be fun to watch them grow.
