July 27, 2019 One of those really fast weeks!

Sunday morning it started raining.  We drove to the Macul 2nd Ward in the Nunoa Stake to attend church.  The missionaries assigned to this ward had told us that their bishop has no desire to have a Capilla Abierta so we decided to visit them and see if we could change their minds.  Well, this is the first ward that literally ignored us.  The people didn't, they were very warm and friendly but the bishopric didn't even approach us.  They must have read our name tags and recognized that we were in charge of the Capilla Abiertas.  Really a different experience!
     It rained all day.  We went to the Capilla Abierta in the Jose Miguel Carrera Ward in the Javier Carrera Stake Sunday afternoon.  It was from 5 to 7.

Elders Josephson and Suarez tried to go out in the rain to contact people in the street, but the street was empty as it was cold and raining.

It was just too miserable for the Elders to be out in the street.  We didn't want any of them to get sick.  Elders Meek, Bacilio, Thompson, Josephson and Suarez.  It was not a very good evening but we did receive a few references from the ward members who braved the weather to attend for the missionaries to visit.  We always enjoy being with these young missionaries.  We had 6 Hermanas and 8 Elders so it was fun to spend time with them.  

Monday we had a couple of service calls to do.  The missionaries were not home and we found that our keys didn't work at one of the pensiones.  Hopefully these Elders won't lock their keys in their apartment before we can get a copy of a key that works!  We did some computer work at the office and left early to go with the Hughes to Wallys for supper.  Elder Thompson was hungry for a hamburger and fries.  

Tuesday morning we woke up to no power in our apartment.  We got ready for our temple shift in the dark.  Just before we left the power came back on.  We had to scrape our windshield this morning.  Of course we have no scraper, just Elder Thompson's comb, but it was cold, 32 degrees.  We enjoyed our shift at the temple.  Really enjoy the people we serve with.  It is the icing on the cake for us.  Taking care of the housing and driving in this city is very, very stressful.  The capilla abiertas and being with the young missionaries is pleasant and rewarding, but serving in the temple is such a blessing for us.  Here we feel the love of our Heavenly Father and find the peace to face another stressful day.

Elder Hughes is not feeling well and they didn't come to the office on Tuesday.  He called Wednesday morning and asked for a blessing.  They did not come to the office today.  We headed to visit an apartment and the GPS didn't take us where we needed to go.  It was a bit frustrating but we finally found the apartment.  We do feel the help from angels daily as we try to accomplish this mission assignment.  Tender mercies from a loving Father in Heaven!

Thursday morning we did a session in the temple for ancestors.  It was a great morning.  We got to the office in time for Elder Thompson to take the young office Elders to pick up empanadas for lunch for the new trainers who were at the office for training.  We got to have empanadas with them.  We really like the Peruvian empanadas from the tienda just around the corner.  We headed out to one of our empty pensiones and got a study table, shelves, dishes, bedding, toaster, and several heaters and fans.  We then went to 3 more pensiones and distributed much of this to the missionaries who needed some of these items.  We decided to just move stuff around instead of buying new as we have 4 empty pensiones right now and no one is using this stuff.  What was left over we took to our bodega till it is needed.  We got back in time to walk home.  We haven't been able to walk much this week because of early morning assignments and late hours in the evenings so it felt really good.

Hermana Hughes is not feeling good either so we didn't get to go out to dinner on Friday.  We have sure missed these two in the office this week.  

Saturday morning we had a Capilla Abierta in the Puente Alto Stake, the Puente Alto 2nd Ward.  It began at 10 so we had to leave our apartment at 8am.  The ward decided to have it during the time that the feria (open market) was going on in the next block.  This is the biggest zone in the mission.  All 22 missionaries were here but we didn't take the photo early enough and some had already gone to fulfill other assignement.

Again she hated being in the chapel and traded with Elders to be able to go into the street to invite people to Venid y Ved (come and see)

We didn't have a big turnout at the chapel but the Elders have over 30 references to visit!

We got home about 2:30 and will leave again at 5:00 to take an Elder Alvarez to his assigned ward to attend a baptism.  Elder Alvarez has hurt his foot so he is in a boot and uses a crutch to get around.  He is staying with our office Elders as he can't walk so they bring him to the office in a wheel chair and we try to find things for him to do.  We have to take him to the hospital for x-rays and a doctors visit on Monday.  It will be late when we get back so I will get this posted now. 

It has been one of those fast weeks when all of a sudden it is Saturday and you wonder where the week went.  We pray that you have all had a wonderful week.  You are always in our thoughts and prayers.  We send our love
