We asked a gentleman to take our foto and he ended up with 27 snapshots of this view of us

The other half of the gate. The park didn't open for another half hour so we didn't stay. They were setting up booths for a ferria. It is a place for day picnicking. The San Jose de Maipo area has swimming pools everywhere with camping and picnic areas. It is where the city goes during these hot summer days to enjoy the cool of the Andes Mountains.
Across the street, halfway up the mountain is a shrine for the Virgin Mary that people climb up to to worship.
We went on down the road and Elder Hughes, our driver, decided to take a side road to see where it went.

We found these monuments that the indigenous people use to worship. We saw many of these in Central America also
There is wax running down the rocks from the candles that are burned in the worship services
As we left here and headed back to the road that we needed, we passed this quaint shop
It was a restaurant but is closed now.

It turned out to be a restaurant with very unique wood tables and chairs
As soon as we walked in, the owner started uncovering her wares for us to see
There was jewelry, knitted hats and gloves, wood products

These are kind of like our garden gnomes. They come in all sizes. The arms and legs usually move so you can put them into whatever position you want.

It was a fun place and we were off again to meet up with the missionaries at their apartment. We installed an ojo majico in their door, inspected the paint job that our contractor had done, and went to the ferria in the town square. These missionaries are quite a ways from their zone and they love to have someone come to visit them. We got a tour of their little chapel where their branch meets.

The average attendance is about 20 right now cause two families with lots of kids just moved away
As we were walking to the park, the Elders got a call that canceled their lunch and their 4 o'clock appointment so we took them to lunch. We ate at the La Oveja Negra Restaurant. The food was great but the portions were huge. When we could eat no more, we gave our leftovers to the Elders who cleaned up every plate. We are so amazed at how much these young men can eat!

We said good-bye to the Elders and headed on up the mountains. What an amazing view around every corner.

The "road" changed from pavement to gravel and then to washed out dirt. When we came to this sign I was ready to turn around but we went on for another 15 minutes. Elder Hughes finally decided that he had gone far enough with the van and turned back. We were only a few miles from the Argentina border and the volcano but the road just wasn't there anymore.

Our chocoholic, Hermana Hughes had spotted a sign for chocolates on the way up the mountain so we stopped here on our way home.
It made me think of a story book house. The wood work was amazing again. Very similar to the houses at the start of our adventure today. Not only did they sell chocolate, they sold ice cream so we all enjoyed a cone

We drove on home, getting in about 8, dropped off the Wallace's and went to the store for chicken and BBQ sause for Sunday dinner.
Sunday morning we picked up the Wallace's and headed to the Pirque Branch to attend church. We arrived at the building where we thought they met but we're at the wrong building AGAIN. So we attended the Los Prados ward. The Wallace's knew many people there who served in the temple with them. After church, the Hughes and the Wallaces' came to our house for dinner, We had creamed peas and potatoes with BBQ chicken, jello and rolls. Then we went to the Hughes apartment and played "Ticket to Ride". It has been a fun weekend but not a relaxing one so we will be tired to begin our week.
Monday began at 2:30AM. We loaded up our pick-up with luggage for 5 missionaries and took the only Elder with us and the Hughes took the 4 Hermana's and we headed to the airport(4 miles of tunnels). It is a sad, but happy day for these young missionaries who have finished their mission and are heading home.
We met with the La Reina Zone and presented our power point about cleaning and then the Capilla Abierta power point so that they are ready when we have one in their zone.
Tuesday morning we headed back out to San Jose de Maipo to look at a house that the Elders have found to replace the small one that they are in. There is a lot of repairs that need to take place on the little house and this new one is in good shape and is less money also. We think that they will be moving in about a week to the new house. They are very excited!
Wednesday and we are on the road again. We went out to Gabriela (tunnel) to inspect the house that just got remodeled to see if we want to rent it. Nope - there are no plug-ins in the kitchen and the breakers in the house won't handle the appliances. We got back to the office in time to head to Javiera Carrera to meet with the owner about repairs that we are starting on this pension because it is empty right now. We will get it painted and put in new flooring before the influx of 13 Hermanas in March.

We had 2 service calls to do today but couldn't start them till 3:00 when the missionaries got home. It makes for a long day when we don't get home till 8:00.
Friday and Elders' Thompson and Hughes took the bus down town to sign papers for a new rental out in Gabriela. The lawyers office is right down town and the parking is very difficult so they took the bus. Then they headed out again and got stuck in traffic for an hour and a half. The bus ride was so much easier and no stress!
It's been a busy week. We are heading out on Saturday for another adventure with the Hughes and Wallace's. The temple will open again on Tuesday so this is the last time for a while that we will be able to spend time with the Wallace's. Their day off is Mondays and we usually try to take off on Saturdays with the Hughes.
