October memories

     October continued with football games and golfing as this fall is beautiful.  The days can warm up to the high 70's and the nights cool off but no frost yet.
     We got a call from George Orr to come and help him with a wood project.  He had just gotten a new toy, a boom truck with a 60 foot bucket, and was cutting down a BIG tree at a member's home.

                This is what we saw as we drove up to the house.

 George is in the bucket.  He had already trimmed the tree of all the branches and just needed to fall the tip and cut down the trunk.

 

/Elden Coleman was there to help also so as George cut the top, we pulled on the rope to make sure that the tree didn't hit the house.

                 Kim as usual was there to help with the project.

      George is enjoying his retirement from the DI but is working poor Kim to death with all of his tree cutting and wood hauling that he is doing.  But it is good for him as he is loosing weight and feeling better than he has in years. 
     On the 15th we were thrilled to go to Boise to listen to Gideon's Fall Concert.  He is playing the cello in the 7th grade orchestra.

The music was wonderful.  We look forward to his next concert.

I got Mom to her last doctor's appointments and she is ready to head to Yuma.  We left on the 22nd for Yuma.  Mom didn't want to stop for the night so we drove straight through in one day.  We left here about 5am and arrived at John and Sharon's place in Yuma about 8pm.  It was a long day but we were blessed and arrived safe and sound.  We spent the night at a motel there and met Mom and John and Sharon for breakfast on the 23rd.

Sharon plans on making this a year to remember for Mom.  We left Mom in good hands and headed for home.  We planned to drive till we got tired and then spend the night where ever.  But Lon just kept driving and we got home around 11pm.  We were very thankful that we came home that night as we got a good snow storm the next day and we would have had bad roads.

I was sustained on the 24th as the Primary Pianist and Lon was sustained as the Scout Committee Chairman.  I am also a visiting teacher now with Karen Miller as my partner. 

We need to get one last camping trip in so off we went with George and Kim on the 29th of October to Little Wood Resevour.

We camped right along the creek.  George and Kim bought our camper when we went to El Salvador.  We borrowed Tracy's 4-wheelers for the trip.

 We took a drive in the pickup when we got camp set up.  Kim and George had both grown up in this area and spend a lot of time hunting and fishing and camping here with their families when they were young.  It is a great area for camping.

We probably have waited just a little too long for this last camping trip as the temperature really dropped when the sun went down.

 The fire, taco soup and hot chocolate sure did feel good that evening.  We still didn't get the hot water figured out and Lon thought that the catalytic heater would be sufficient for heat.  We froze until about 3am when Lon started the furnace.  It was really cold that night.

            We woke up to a good frost the next morning.

We took a ride on the 4-wheelers but were chilled to the bone after about a half hour.  It is so fun to spend time with George and Kim but we are done camping till next spring, when it is warmer!!  We got home and winterized the camper and put it to bed for the winter.  As Lon winterized it, we discovered why we had no hot water so we are now set for next year. 

We are feeling more and more at home and truly enjoying being in our ward.  We are not so sure that we are ready for the cold weather that is on it's way.  It could be a really long winter!
